WANTED: OFFENSIVE LINEMEN

Offensive Performance
The root of all of our offensive woes was the poor play of the offensive line. The Chargers completely dominated the trenches and were able to force sacks and bad throws. The real question is will this 7 step drop offense work with our current offensive line? We either need to get our guys to block or switch to a shorter drop and shorter passing plays if we want to have success this season. I was glad to see Andrew Walter get some playing time once the game was out of reach but it wasn't very valuable time because he didn't get much time to throw the ball. Aaron Brooks actually looked pretty decent when he had time to throw the ball but once again didn't have much success with our poor offensive line play.

Defensive Performance
Why did we play a nickel formation for the majority of the first half? With a Quarterback with no starts we knew San Diego was going to run with LT and yet we just sat back and let him run all over us. The defense started playing much better against the run in the second half Fabian Washington was beat badly and we didn't converge on the ball like a speedy defense should.

What to expect
Art Shell has his hands full with things to work on. No one performed very well at all. I definitely think we need to switch up to a shorter drop on passing plays or we will get sacked all season long. We face another strong defense next week so we need to get better protection or it could be a similar result.

With all of this negativity, there is still no reason to hit the panic button yet. This was Shell's first game in many years, Aaron Brooks first game with the Raiders, and a shuffled Offensive line's first game together. The positive thing is that there is no way to go but up

Question
Why didn't Art Shell kick the field goal at the end of the game to prevent the second shutout at home in Raider History?

I agree. I really do. Tonights performance was just plain disgusting.

With the way the offensive line is blocking, it is not going to matter who our quarterback is.

We need to do something about it or we will be picking pretty high in the 07 draft.

one word...

disguisting.

He was sacked more time (7) then passes completed (6).

We are officially in the Brady Quinn sweepstakes!

Unless our offensive linemen suddenly figure out how to block, we are in trouble versus any team with a decent pass rush.

I am still hopeful that our linemen will come togehter and step it up.

The pass protection was pathetic. The O-Line were completely mauled. Brooks had no chance in those circumstances. Courtney Anderson dropped too many balls. For all the talk about a committment to the power running game, I just didn't see it.

Huff, Howard, and Sands looked good on defense. I was happy to see Ronald Curry back on the field. He should start on Sunday. Lechler was brilliant. I think the D did a good job keeping the game close (13-0 in 3rd Quarter) but eventually the dam broke since the offense was so inept. No reason to hit the panic button BUT Shell will need be at his absolute best this week in leading his players, finding solutions, and getting the team back on track. The game plan, play calls, protection schemes all need to be reviewed and adjusted for next week's opponent (Balt).

The one thing that disturbs me is that it doesn't seem like many adjustments were made in the 2nd half. How about some screens, short crossing routes, 3 and 5 step drops, etc.?

exactly. Anybody with a little football knowledge could tell we can't take thise big drops and throw the ball deep without protection. I hope this was just Walsh getting off the rust because we need to throw the ball short with this O-line.

I still don't know why we didn't throw a screen pass. They were bltizing like mad so we probably could have caught them in a blitz.

The Raiders won't have an easier time against the Ravens defense unless they can give Brooks some time.

If Walsh doesn't switch to a shorter drop on passing plays next game, he deserves to be fired.

What happened to the Cowboys? Better yet what happened to D. Bledsoe?

Walsh's inability to recognize and adjust with shorter reads is beyond explanation (pee wee football 101). Bottom line: I think Art Shell made a huge mistake asking him to leave his B&B. The nickle packages on D are another mystery. And, why didn't Art kick the field goal? Hello! The owner, the coaches and the players are so wrapped up in Raiders' history, yet with one seemingly obvious play call, Shell enters a shutout into the record books for ever. I've been a Raider fan for 35 years, and I don't think I've ever had a pit in my stomach this large. anybody listen to ESPN Radio today? Ouch! The Raiders are the laughing stock of the NFL, professional sports and pee wee football.

It may take a few weeks (or years), but the Silver and Black will be back to contender status in the afc west.
